Friday January 19th, 7:15 AM Oscar, Joe and I got into the minivan. We were off to school as usual. As we made our way down the gravel driveway, I started to dial the phone number to Fred Meyer. This had become a ritual for us. We had been hunting for a Nintendo Wii gaming system for some time. They sold out before Christmas and finding one in stock was near impossible. We had been calling every possible reseller in the area. In the process, we had become intimate with the shipment arrival times for most of these stores. Fred Meyer received shipments daily at 7 AM. So, each day we would call them on our way to school.
This day we struck gold. After calling the automated phone system and pressing 2 for the department phone list then pressing 5 for electronics, a gentle not quite fully awake sounding male voice answered my now well practiced, and I’m sure annoying, question about their Wii status. To my amazement, he responded,
YES, we got some this morning!
He added that they were unpacking them as he spoke. I cranked the steering wheel of our trusty iron steed North in the direction of Fred Meyer as I pulled onto Littlerock Road.We swung in front of Freddy’s and Oscar jumped out and ran into the store to save us one. Joe and I followed closely behind after parking. There Oscar was, holding the box with that kid smile that only can be described as priceless. We bought the first of the dozen Wii’s they had received and headed off to school. The last remaining hurdle was waiting for Oscar to get back from his Dad’s house on Monday. So, the Wii sat in our house for the weekend getting acquainted with our home. Monday we initiated our new Wii. The End.
